Weekly Note w/c 28.11.16

Dear parents/carers

Next week we shall be going back to some work on addition strategies.

Please keep working on your child’s Rainbow Maths Targets at home. The check up sheets they have been bringing home each week  show you how they’ve been getting on. There are now just a few weeks left of this term to work on number bonds because in January we shall move to a new focus of doubling and halving.

Christmas Concert

Rehearsals are now under way for our concert and the children are working very hard to learn their lines, songs and dances.

Thankyou to all of you who have now sent in costumes in a named bag. If you have any difficulties providing any of the items then please let us know as soon as possible so that we can put out a request to the year group or source items ourselves.

The concert is at 2pm on Wednesday 7th December.

Each child has been allocated 2 tickets which you should have received. We kindly ask that if you do not need both of the tickets, please could any spares be returned to school. We have limited numbers due to the space in the hall. If you require extra tickets, any spares will be available from the school office.

Trip to Candie Museum

Each class will be visiting Candie Museum to look at old toys and explore the Discovery Room. If you are able to come along to help with the trip then please let your child’s class teacher know as we require 4 additional helpers per class. Buses will leave school at 9.15am and we shall return for 11am.

Thursday 8th December – Mrs Bramley’s Class

Friday 9th December – Miss Horsepool’s Class

Monday 12th December – Mrs Boscher’s Class

PTA Christmas Fayre

If you have any donations of toys and games, books or bric a brac then these can now be brought into school. Cakes can be brought into school on the day of the fayre.

Children can be collected early from classes from 2.30pm onwards on Friday 1st December to be taken to the Christmas Fayre. Alternatively you can collect as normal at 2.55pm and then visit!

Tickets for the hamper raffle are available from outside the office before and after school until Thursday 1st December. The raffle will then be drawn in assembly on Friday 2nd December.

Many thanks

Year 1 team

WANTED: recycling!

This week the children have a new challenge in the Discovery Zone to design and make a space craft for Marty the Monster but we are running low on junk modelling resources!

Before you fill up your recycling bags this week could we please have your cardboard boxes and tubes, clean plastic tubs, bottles and containers.

Please could we ask that no containers from raw meat are brought in or milk cartons.

We also need old newspapers to cover the tables with when painting.

Many thanks

Year 1 team

Weekly Note – w/c 21st November

The children enjoyed their visits to the library this week. They were taken on a tour of the library which included going to ‘staff only’ areas. They also enjoyed listening to stories about monsters and making their own monster.

In literacy next week we will be continuing our work on monster stories.

In maths we will be continuing our work on addition by thinking about doubling numbers. Click here for some links to activities for doubling and Rainbow Maths number bond practise.

We will also be spending time next week learning the songs, words and dances for the Christmas Concert.

Thank you for your support.

The Year 1 team.

Children in Need/Christmas Concert

Children may come to school on Friday 18th November wearing spotty mufti in aid of Children in Need. Please give donations to your child’s teacher.

Christmas Concert

Children will have brought home a note letting you know what costume they will need for the Christmas Concert. Please look out for it in book bags!

Missing PE kit

We have a little boy in Mrs Boscher’s class who has lost his PE bag with his PE kit in it. Please could you check at home in case it has been taken by mistake. It is in a blue St Martin’s PE bag with the draw strings.

Kind Regards

Mrs Boscher

Weekly Note – W/C 14.11.16

Dear Parents/Carers

This week we will be looking at letter writing. We have been very excited to have a visit from Marty the Monster who enjoys writing letters to the children and they have loved writing back too!

During this week we will be continuing to work on partitioning numbers and move onto addition.

Library Visit

This week we are going to visit Guilles Alles Library this week and we are looking forward to it.

Just to remind you here are the days that the classes will be going:

Monday 14th November – Mrs Boscher’s Class and Miss Horsepool’s Class

Tuesday 15th November – Mrs Bramley’s Class

We are continuing to check through Rainbow Targets along with the High Frequency Words.

Weekly Note – w/c 7.11.16

This week we have had a focus on story telling – your children may have come home telling you new stories that they have made up. If they haven’t, see if they can tell you one!

Next week we will be introducing our new topic – Monsters. In Literacy the children will be thinking of words which we can use to describe a monster. The Discovery Zone will be full of new monster challenges and children will begin working on a new Discovery Zone passport.

In maths next week we will be doing some more work on addition and subtraction.

We are testing the Rainbow Targets frequently and your child will bring their test sheets home. This is for you to keep at home, just so you can see how your child is getting on with their target. If you would like to work on the targets at home, click here for a link to activities.

Library Visits

We will be visiting the Guilles Allez Library in town to give the children an introduction to the library. They will have a tour followed by a story session based on Monsters. The children will then do a craft activity linked to one of the stories they listened to.

The classes will be going on the following days:

Monday 14th November – 9 – 11am – Mrs Boscher and Miss Horsepool’s Classes

Tuesday 15th November – 9 – 11am – Mrs Bramley’s Class

If anyone is able to help out on the trip, please could you let your child’s teacher know.

Thank you
